Church Facility Design: Spaces for a Higher Purpose

Church Facility Design: Spaces for a Higher Purpose

Whether you are renovating an existing sanctuary or building a new house of worship from the ground up, BRP Architects can help. We provide architectural design services for churches and places of worship throughout Missouri and beyond, customizing each project to meet the needs and preferences of your congregation.

Our Process

Families develop their faith community. Knowing this, we believe that the process in which you engage them in the design can be as important as the building itself. We have extensive experience in engaging faith communities in the design process and building consensus among diverse groups. We believe that this sense of participation, along with our collaborative approach to design, will yield an architecturally rich and spiritually uplifting space for your congregation.

Much of our approach to service can be reduced to a simple but seemingly rare formula: ask and then listen. While our team has a good deal of expertise and experience in buildings, our experience and expertise only matter when it is applied to your needs and circumstances. That’s the key behind our tagline – YOUR VISION. OUR FOCUS.

We are confident in our team members’ design experience, which enables them to anticipate the right questions and make appropriate recommendations to the client.

As a result, church facilities designed by our firm seem to reflect the culture and character of that particular church community, informed by the following beliefs:

  • The best church facilities are ministry driven. An architect’s deep understanding of the strategic purpose of a project is essential, because otherwise, church facilities become mere edifices.

  • Church facilities are more than buildings, they are an invitation for Christ. As such, they need to welcome the target mission field, even if expressing that welcome makes the “church insider” uneasy at first.

  • Families sacrifice to build churches. We need to honor this sacrifice by making projects the best they can be.

  • We need to deliver long term value in facilities. For us, long-term value is evidenced by durability, expandability, efficiency, quality, and especially in church facilities, significance.

  • We need to strive to do the right thing and do it well. It is possible to do the wrong thing, well. And it is possible to do the right thing, poorly. For us, hitting the bullseye means doing the right thing, the right way.

BRP has designed assembly spaces for all worship styles, from traditional liturgy-oriented styles of worship to contemporary, technology-supported worship. The above beliefs guide our design work. BRP Architects’ church design work is identified by a sense of welcome and orientation for first-time visitors, a clearly defined entry, a sense of welcome and clear interior movement, generous use of daylight where appropriate, flexibility, and ease of use.
