After 38 years of dedication and leadership, Mike Harned is retiring from BRP Architects. Throughout his distinguished career, Mike has not only shaped the firm’s legacy but has also made an indelible mark on the architectural landscape. As he prepares to embark on a new chapter of travel, family time, volunteering, and relaxation with his wife Carrie, and their grandkids, we reflect on his exceptional contributions to BRP and the architectural profession.
A Storied Career
Mike joined BRP in 1986, and his passion for architecture quickly led him to become a partner in 1997. As an Architect and Partner at BRP, Mike was responsible for architectural design and project management, bringing his vast expertise to a wide range of projects. His portfolio includes high-profile work in themed entertainment and retail, hospitality resorts, theaters, high-end residential, and corporate office buildings. Mike’s versatility and dedication to each project have made him a cornerstone of BRP’s success.
A registered architect in both Missouri and South Carolina, Mike earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture from Oklahoma State University. His professional achievements are numerous, and his expertise has been sought after both locally and beyond.
A Commitment to Community
Mike’s contributions to the profession go beyond his work at BRP. He is an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), where he has served on the Education Committee and as an adjunct faculty member at Drury University’s Hammons School of Architecture. His involvement with Leadership Springfield and his service on the Design Review Committee at Highland Springs Country Club further reflect his dedication to the community and his commitment to improving the built environment.
Mike has also generously given his time to the Lunch Buddy program through Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks, mentoring young people and fostering positive connections within the community.
A Mentor and Friend
Known for his exceptional illustration skills and his ability to listen and collaborate, Mike has been a mentor to countless colleagues and students. His proactive, results-oriented approach has influenced both the projects he’s worked on and the people he’s worked with. Mike’s legacy at BRP is not just about the buildings he helped create but also the people he helped shape.
Looking Ahead
As Mike and Carrie embark on their next adventure, we wish them nothing but the best. Retirement may be the end of Mike’s professional journey at BRP, but it’s only the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his life. Whether exploring new destinations or spending time with family, Mike’s next phase will undoubtedly be as fulfilling as his incredible career.
Thank you, Mike, for everything you’ve done for BRP, the architectural community, and the countless lives you’ve touched. You will be missed, and your legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.
