On August 1st, we welcomed Blake Melton, Architectural Intern, to our team!
Blake, who is from Sparta, MO, made his way to Springfield, MO to attend Drury University where he graduated in May 2021 with a Master of Architecture. Blake was a member of Drury’s Design Build Club, AIAS, and studied abroad in Aegina, Greece, and Hangzhou, China. In his free time, he enjoys floating, camping, fishing, gaming, and watching professional wrestling.
Let’s get to know him even more:
What is your favorite restaurant?
“That’s hard one...I’m a foodie. My go to would probably be Chicago Cheesecake on Walnut.”
If you could be anyone, who would you be?
“I don’t think I would be anyone else. You can only genuinely be you.”
If there was a quote that reflects your everyday outlook on life, what would it be?
“Memento mori. I think it’s a roundabout way of saying YOLO (you only live once) so live while you can.”
Who’s your favorite architect and why?
“Kengo Kuma, he’s a Japanese architect that designed the stadium for the Olympics this summer. I love his exploration of architecture and sculpture as well as his craftmanship.”
If you were a superhero, what would your power be?
“To have the ability to fill a gap with bricks, so for example if you were running through an alleyway and a bad guy was chasing you, you could fill the open space with bricks. Or if it’s easier you could put flying, that would be cool too.”
Where is your favorite place you’ve ever visited?
“The Great Wall of China.”
What is your favorite sport, favorite team and why?
“Professional wrestling, “Hangman” Adam Page is my favorite wrestler.”
Name three goals you want to accomplish in your lifetime (that you haven’t accomplished yet).
“Read The Republic by Plato and Analects of Confucius in their original languages. I also want to see the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.”
What is your favorite thing to do in the Springfield area?
“Probably floating or camping, I love spending time outdoors or on the river.”
